Hong Kong International Airport / Triumph in the Skies

hkia1
Normally, the Hong Kong International Airport should be the very first place you visit when you come to Hong Kong.

Located at Chek Lap Kok (thus colloquially also known as Chek Lap Kok Airport) in Lantau Island, Hong Kong International Airport comes into service in 1998 to replace the Kai Tak Airport. Though with a short history of just about ten years, it has already won seven Skytrax World Airport Awards and a lot of other awards.

Years ago, the now obsolete Kai Tak Airport has also once been one of the busiest airport in the world. Located in the Kowloon City in Hong Kong, it was too close to the residential area for an airport and the noise pollution was a big problem. You can see at the following genuine picture below how the people living in Kowloon City were ”interacted” with the flights.

Now the airport has moved to the remote Chek Lap Kok, Lantau Island, and without the problem of noise control, the airport can operate on a round-the-clock basis with its multiple runway.
